Rough Sleeping Mental Health Awareness

Sponsored by the Mayor of London's Rough Sleeping Innovation Fund

Backed by the Mayor of London's Rough Sleeping Innovation Fund, Westminster City Council and London Borough of Lambeth, this free course supports cross-sector professionals in recognising and working with the mental health needs of people who sleep rough and the unstably housed. Fifteen leading experts, including people with lived experience, Sir Michael Marmot, Deputy Mayor James Murray, Associate Professor Nick Maguire and Jane Cook (MHCLG), discuss the context and complexity of need, approaches to engagement and support, recognising and working with risk, and key mental health and substance use problems. The course also explores the use of legislation such as the Mental Health Act, navigating the NHS, and helping people with no recourse to public funds.

Improving Access to Services for Clients Experiencing Multiple Disadvantage and Co-occurring Conditions

Backed by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities

Created in partnership with the NHS's Transformation Partners in Health and Care Co-occurring Conditions Team, this course supports cross-sector professionals in recognising and supporting the multiple and co-occurring needs of people who experience multiple disadvantage. It benefits both frontline staff and system leaders across health, social care, the voluntary sector and the criminal justice system. You will develop an understanding of the individual, service and system-level barriers that people with multiple needs face in accessing services; recognise the prevalence of trauma and how to work in a trauma-informed way; be given practical and creative approaches to assessment, engagement and support; and recognise the importance of gender-informed service models and peer support. It also covers the Care Act, safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, NICE guidance, the Drug Strategy and the NHS Long Term Plan, and what a trauma-informed criminal justice system can look like.

Four modules, about 40 minutes each. Description from the Teachable course page, 21 Oct 2026. "Substance misuse" in the original changed to "substance use" per the crib sheet. Lucy to approve.
