The founder
Dr Emma Williamson is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with more than 20 years in services for people living with complex needs. For 15 of those she founded and led Psychology in Hostels, a multi-award-winning NHS partnership for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust that put psychologists inside homelessness hostels across central London, working across organisational boundaries to tackle health inequalities.
What she saw there, over and over, was staff doing difficult, skilled work with little or no specialist training. Not because nobody cared, but because the training that existed was expensive, generic, or written by people who had never done the job. The cost of that showed up in anxious staff, in burnout and turnover, and in the quality of support people received.
She founded aneemo in 2018 to change that: short, expert-led, trauma-informed training that a support worker could do between shifts, written by clinicians and people with lived experience, priced so a small charity could afford it. The Mayor of London backed it early. CONFIRM: how the Mayor of London backing worked (Rough Sleeping Innovation Fund?)
Emma still teaches most of the core courses herself. She is a Visiting Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London, has published widely, and is a contributing author to the national guidance on Psychologically Informed Environments. Emma to review this section; it should sound like her, not like a bio
